“Rocket Queen” by Guns N’ Roses
(Words/Music: Guns N’ Roses, Album: Appetite For Destruction, Geffen 1987)

This is one of my favorite stories in rock recording. According to and confirmed by numerous members of GNR (a feat nearly impossible), the “sex sounds” during the guitar solo were produced by Axl having sex with a woman in the studio and recording it. But the best part - it was drummer Steven Adler’s girlfriend at the time. Apparently, he didn’t know. And we wonder why the band couldn’t get along.

And the Coda - more songs need good Codas.

Funny thing about this song, though. It’s damn near schizophrenic. The entire first part of the song is all about how the singer can help someone out for certain sexual favors and the end is all about how sweet he is and how he’ll always be there? I suppose that it would make sense that the “sex sounds” that Axl produces in the middle is actually the woman taking him up on his offer, which would mean that the end would be him keeping his word. How nice of him.
