“Prowler” by Iron Maiden (Live at Ullevi, Sweden)

A great fairly recent version from their “Early Days” Tour in 2005)

“The Ides of March/Prowler” by Iron Maiden (Live at Bremen, 1981)

Despite the poor video quality and shoddy editing, the audio on this early version of “Prowler” is pretty good, especially since this video includes the show opener “The Ides of March”.

“Prowler” by Iron Maiden

First song, first album. And one of the more pop-oriented songs, but with some serious prog-metal pieces (specifically the bridge from the chorus into the guitar solos).

Walking through the city, looking oh so pretty,
I’ve just got to find my way.
See the ladies flashing. All their legs and lashes.
I’ve just got to find my way.

The re-recorded this for the b-side of “The Evil That Men Do”. It’s heavier and one can clearly hear the difference between Bruce and Paul’s vocal styles.

“The Evil That Men Do” by Iron Maiden (from En Vivo!, Live in Chile)

The song is actually the least remarkable thing in this video. While still a great performance, the editing of the video is the real star here because it features great split-screens which allow you to see many of the members at once, including some awesome overhead shots of Nicko McBrain.

And then Eddid shows up.

It’s the alien Eddie from The Final Frontier which looks a bit like the Predator. Janick “fights” him with his guitar and runs around him until Eddie is finally given a guitar so he can jam with the band. When the song ends, the “Eddie” chants begin. Overall, one of the best Maiden live videos around.

Damn, those crowds in Brazil bring out the best in this band! They are ripping through this song, complete with Bruce’s beginning in which he inverts Shakespeare’s lines from The Tragedy of Julius Caesar

“The Evil That Men Do” by Iron Maiden

I’m not a big fan of the Seventh Son of a Seventh Son album, but this has always been one of the highlights. Now, I know it’s because of the reference to Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, but twenty some years ago, it was because it’s just a solid Iron Maiden song. The synthesizers they were experimenting with are used sparingly in this song, it progresses from some  well-constructed guitar harmonies to a fast-paced, driving metal song.
