We’d been adding, just to amuse each other on stage, adding the Johnny Cash “Folsom Prison Blues” lick to any song whenever possible. So we were doing “Hot Rod Lincoln” and i went ‘So-and-so passed me by,’ then I did ‘Johnny Cash passed me by’ and played that lick. Well, from then on it was off to the races.
Where is my mind? It’s simple - it’s in my classroom.
I feel that Johnny Cash (through songwriters Hayes and Rhodes) has essentially captured my life in this song. While I used to be a sales manager and make a ton of money, I have never been happier than I am now as a teacher. Every day I know that I am doing something I love to do and making some sort of difference whereas before I was just making a lot of money. Granted, I need to live a different lifestyle than I did before, but I wholeheartedly embrace that as a much improved situation. And in the end, I know I’ll be able to look back and see that I lived with a purpose and not just to survive.
That’s where my mind is every day and it’s how I answer the alarm clock at 5AM every day.
How many times have You heard someone say If I had his money I could do things my way
But little they know That it’s so hard to find One rich man in ten With a satisfied mind
Once I was winning In fortune and fame Everything that I dreamed for To get a start in life’s game
Then suddenly it happened I lost every dime But I’m richer by far With a satisfied mind
Money can’t buy back Your youth when you’re old Or a friend when you’re lonely Or a love that’s grown cold
The wealthiest person Is a pauper at times Compared to the man With a satisfied mind
When my life has ended And my time has run out My friends and my loved ones I’ll leave there’s no doubt
But one thing’s for certain When it comes my time I’ll leave this old world With a satisfied mind
How many times have You heard someone say If I had his money I could do things my way
But little they know That it’s so hard to find One rich man in ten With a satisfied mind
