“After Dark” by Tito and Tarantula from From Dusk Till Dawn
Currently watching on IFC because the football game is essentially over.
Oh, and the vampires in this can totally kick the asses of the vampires in Twilight.
Tito and the Tarantula // After Dark
In my heart
A deep and dark
and lonely part
Wants her and
waits for After DarkIt only seemed appropriate since this scene is on right now. Plus, this song is the hotness.
“Cancion del Mariachi (Morena de Mi Corazan)” by Los Lobos with Antonio Banderas
(Words/Music: Los Lobos, Album: Desperado Soundtrack, Epic/Sony 1995)
This weekend, director Robert Rodriguez will be releasing his newest film Machete and, in addition to being excited to see a film starring long-time character actor Danny Trejo, I am also excited to hear what kind of music Robert Rodriguez decides to use. Rodriguez, who, like fellow auteur Quentin Tarantino, spends much of his time paying homage to “grindhouse” movies, is also known for filling his films with unique and memorable music and often with a Mexican or Hispanic flavor. “Cancion del Mariachi (Morena de Mi Corazan)” by Los Lobos, which Banderas sings with a mariachi band behind the opening credits in Deseprado, is one of the many songs that comes to mind immediately when I think of Rodriguez films (I have to admit that I was torn between this “After Dark” by Tito and Tarantula from From Dusk Till Dawn for this post). The odd thing is that I don’t know much about Los Lobos and can’t name any more of their songs (besides their remake of “La Bamba”) but every time I see this film (which seems to be at least once a week because it’s on cable constantly), I think to myself that I want to find out more about them. I don’t speak a word of Spanish and have no idea what the song is about (I’m assuming it’s about a Mariachi - hence the title and the fact that Desperado is the second film in Rodriguez’s Mariachi trilogy) but that doesn’t stop me from enjoying it immensely; and so much so that I tracked it down and downloaded it once upon a time. As an English teacher and lover of language, song lyrics have always held a special place for me. But when a song is this good, sometimes the lyrics don’t matter.
